Jennifer Smith received her BA in Dance and her MA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago and holds and MFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Jennifer is the Artistic Director of Back & to the Left Productions and has presented her choreographic work nationally in Chicago, Detroit, Ann Arbor and Milwaukee, and at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in Minneapolis. Internationally, the company has performed at the Fringe Festival for Independent Dance Artist in Toronto, Canada and at the Festival Off'Avignon in France. Jennifer has presented her scholarly work and conducted workshops at several National Dance Education Organization conferences and at the Hawaii International Conference for Arts & Humanities. She is currently the Director of Dance and Associate Professor of Dance at Knox College, located in Galesburg, Illinois, where she received the Philip Green Wright / Lombard College Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2003. Currently, she is investigating somatic-based movement studies in both her artistic and scholarly work.
